About the Artist

“If you send smiles out into the world, they come back to you tenfold. Why not just be kind and take a moment to make someone smile? The goal in my art is to make someone smile and when they do, I am content.”

Ever since I can remember, I have been creating. My grandmother would sit and color with me, teaching me how to be clean and neat. We would cut up old cards, doilies, and ribbon to create fancy new cards. She always had something creative going on in her house. It was a lovely place to visit.

I grew up with four sisters on a wooded road with fields and cows across the street. My sister Mary and I tromped through the woods and streams making up all kinds of funny voices, characters, and games. Our favorite was drawing heads, torsos, and legs on long strips of paper that we folded and passed back and forth to make the funniest creatures! This silliness between us helped to bring forth the Smeople you see today. I am inspired by silliness, fun, and happy stories.

As a digital artist, I often begin sketching on my iPad, but sometimes ideas are born in my portable sketchbooks. My best ideas are inspired by my life experiences and the stories of my friends, family, and clients. I love when my art becomes the vision someone had in their mind but they did not have the means to complete.

The best part is when they see my work, smile, laugh, and are happy and pleased!

Recently I have expanded into surface pattern design. My collections are also inspired by my experiences growing up; nature, animals, family, fiends, and silliness. I love creating a hero pattern and then finding different nuances in the pattern that can be used as motifs for supportive coordinating prints.

I hope you find joy when you look at my Smeople.

I would love to work with you to create something unique and fun for you too!
